Your Mission

As Head of Financial Crime Governance, your mission is to protect the organization and its users from financial crime while enabling global financial inclusion. You will develop, maintain, and enhance frameworks and policies to ensure compliance with global regulations. In this role, you will lead a specialized team that oversees financial crime governance, focusing on effective risk management across multiple jurisdictions and ensuring that the organization’s financial crime programs meet the highest industry standards.

What You’ll Do

  • Framework Design & Oversight: Develop and implement comprehensive financial crime and supportability frameworks, covering a wide range of risk areas and ensuring alignment with global regulatory standards.
  • Policy Management: Oversee the creation and maintenance of policies addressing financial crime issues such as money laundering, terrorism financing, sanctions compliance, tax evasion, and human trafficking.
  • Risk Assessment: Lead compliance risk assessments and governance functions, supporting effective oversight of global programs.
  • Training & Development: Design and implement a global training program to equip employees with the knowledge to manage relevant risks effectively.
  • Executive Reporting: Ensure transparent and effective reporting to executive management and board committees, highlighting key financial crime risks.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a trusted advisor to internal teams (product, engineering, sales) and a primary point of contact for external partners, including regulatory bodies and law enforcement.
  • Strategic Thought Leadership: Shape the company’s financial crime strategy, providing insights and direction on global trends in regulation and compliance.
  • Regulatory Coordination: Manage interactions with regulatory officers and ensure effective reporting to meet compliance obligations in various regions.
  • Industry Relations: Maintain strategic relationships with financial partners, acting as a visible leader in the industry for financial crime prevention and compliance best practices.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Extensive Experience: 15+ years in financial crime compliance within a major financial institution or fintech, with deep expertise in policy, regulatory interaction, and global compliance standards.
  • Leadership Skills: 8+ years of management experience, including overseeing senior subject matter experts and managing complex compliance programs.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of financial crime regulations, including the US Patriot Act, FATF recommendations, and EU Anti-Money Laundering Directives.
  • Proven Change Agent: Demonstrated experience in driving regulatory change and managing risk in rapidly evolving environments.
  • Compliance Culture Builder: Skilled in embedding a “culture of compliance” within an organization, with a focus on innovation and proactive risk management.
  • Collaborative Mindset: Effective relationship-building abilities with cross-functional teams in product, engineering, and sales to foster a safe and scalable growth environment.
  • Communication & Presentation Skills: Exceptional ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into clear principles and communicate with senior leadership, regulatory bodies, and other external partners.
  • Board-Level Experience: Prior experience presenting to Board Committees and executive forums.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience in the payments or fintech industry and certifications such as CAMS or CFE.
